FKA twigs is gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated second album Magdalene, and now right before its release, she has given us an absolutely stunning cover of jazz classic ‘Summertime’.
The song, which was originally written George Gerwin but has enjoyed many lives thanks to versions by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and more, was reworked in twigs’ quintessential haunting style and it’s safe to say you’ve never heard it done like this before.
She performed the cover as part of a set for BBC Radio 1 at the famed Maida Vale studios. She also performed original tracks ‘Cellophane’ and ‘Home With You’. Watch the full performance below.
We’ve already heard four tracks from Magdalene, including ‘Cellophane’, ‘Home With You’, ‘Sad Day’ and the Future-featuring ‘Holy Terrain’.
Magdalene is out Friday, 8th November.
