The Killers members Brandon Flowers and Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. have sat down with VEVO for their ‘Watch This’ series to react to the music video for ‘Mr. Brightside’, the band’s debut single.
The video, which has become somewhat of a modern classic, initially premiered back in back in 2004 and is directed by Sophie Muller – who has also worked with Annie Lennox and Sade. It’s inspired by the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, Moulin Rouge!, and stars serial music video actor Eric Roberts.
“It’s just a song about betrayal,” Flowers said in the video, “I was betrayed and I was able to turn it into a masterpiece.”
Throughout the clip, Flowers and Vannucci make comments as to what was happening during filming, how it was the first major production they were ever a part of, and the symbolism of the apple that features throughout the clip.
The band are currently gearing up for the release of their sixth studio album, Imploding The Mirage, which is set to drop at the end of next month. We’ve heard two songs from the album so far – ‘Caution’ and ‘Fire In Bone’.
