Sydney-via-Arnhem Land rapper and artist Ziggy Ramo has surprised fans by sneakily dropping his new album Black Thoughts over the weekend.
In a lengthy statement posted to Instagram, Ramo detailed that the album was actually written five years ago but he dropped it now as he thought it was pressing due to the Black Lives Matter rallies that are happening across the country and across the world.
“I wrote this album 5 years ago while I was hospitalized. I was in a dark space and on suicide watch. It was my obituary,” he wrote.
“I wanted to document my thoughts so that our stories could be heard after I was gone. With the love and support of family and friends I was able to rediscover hope. The album was very healing for me, but I never put it out because I knew as a country we weren’t ready to listen.
“I wish it was dated,” he continued. “I wish there was no need for it. But unfortunately, it’s more relevant than ever and I refuse to wait any longer.”
