The 2020 Emmy nominations have been revealed, and there’s some recognisable names from the world of music included on this year’s list.
Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and collaborator Atticus Ross have picked up two nominations, with their original score for Watchmen receiving a nod in both the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics (‘The Way It Used To Be’) and Outstanding Composition for a Limited Series categories. The show itself picked up an impressive 26 nominations.
Elsewhere, the Beastie Boys, along with director Spike Jonze, received two nominations for their documentary Beastie Boys Story – picking up a nom in the Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program categories.
Wu-Tang leader RZA picked up an Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music nom for his An America Saga theme.
Meanwhile, saxophone wizard Kamasi Washington has picked up a nomination in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special category for his score on Michelle Obama’s Homecoming. He’ll compete in that category with Mark Mothersbaugh, who has been nominated for his work on Tiger King. The documentary itself is up for an Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series award, up against The Last Dance.
Labrinth is also up for a pair of awards for his work on Euphoria – picking up nominations for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. The show’s Zendaya is up for a Lead Actress award.
Other shows which scored a slew of nominations included The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (20), Succession (18) and Ozark (18).
