British R&B superstar Jorja Smith is making her return today with the release of new single ‘By Any Means’, as part of the upcoming Roc Nation Reprise project.
The song is equal parts haunting and funky, with Smith’s signature smooth voices entrancing you at every breath.
Following on from tackling themes of police brutality in her breakout hit ‘Blue Lights’, ‘By Any Means’ was inspired by the social revolution sparked by the death of George Floyd.
“The inspiration behind ‘By Any Means’ really came from going to the Black Lives Matter protest and leaving thinking, ‘what can I do to keep this conversation going?'” Smith said in a press statement.
“It’s not just a post on social media, it’s life.”
‘By Any Means’ marks the second single Smith has released this year, following her cover of St. Germain’s ‘Rose Rouge’ last month.
Reprise is a collection of songs curated by Roc Nation, giving artists a chance to sing freely about social issues. A portion of the proceeds will go to various organisations supporting victims of police brutality and hate crimes.
