The full list of 2020 MTV VMA nominations has arrived. This year’s awards show is still going ahead, despite the pandemic and will be hosted in Brooklyn on Sunday, 30th August.
They’ve added two brand new pandemic-themed categories for this year’s awards: Best Music Video From Home and Best Quarantine Performance. The awards are focused on congratulating artists who adapted through the change — think Blink-182’s ‘Happy Days’ video or Post Malone’s Nirvana livestream.
Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga are leading the noms, with nine nominations each — seven of which are from their collab on ‘Rain On Me’.
Meanwhile Juice WRLD has become the first artist to be nominated posthumously for Video Of The Year since The Notorious B.I.G.
And of course, the over-achiever of every awards show in recent history, Billie Eilish has become the first artist to be nominated for two Video Of The Year awards in their teens. Last year it was for ‘bad guy’, this year for ‘everything i wanted’.
And, Taylor Swift has received a nomination for Video Of The Year for her iconic clip ‘The Man’. She won the category last year with ‘You Need To Calm Down’, making her the first artist, since Katy Perry back in 2011 and 2012, to be nominated the year after winning it. T Swift and Katy Perry join Beyonce, Eminem, and Britney Spears as the only artists to have backed it up in this category.
