Robert Maraj, the father of rap superstar Nicki Minaj, has reportedly been killed in a hit-and-run accident in Long Island, New York.
Nassau County Police have confirmed that Maraj died after being hit by a car on Friday (12th February) around 6:15 PM ET, TMZ writes. Maraj was walking in the roadway near the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue in Mineola, New York.
After being struck, the driver reportedly fled the scene, and no suspect has been identified thus far. Police are asking witnesses to come forward and help with the investigation. According to Associated Press, Maraj was taken to hospital in a critical condition and later pronounced dead on Saturday (13th February) from his injuries. He was 64 years old.
According to TMZ, a representative from Minaj’s team confirmed her father’s passing, but Minaj has declined to publicly comment on the news.
Minaj was born Onika Tanya Maraj in Saint James, Trinidad in 1982. She later moved with her parents – Maraj and her mother Carol – to the United States, and was raised in the New York City borough of Queens.
