Birdz is still riding the highs of his huge 2020, but he’s already kicking the next phase of his career into gear with new song ‘Fly’.
Teaming up with Ngaiire, the song is a testament to resilience and persistence, and marks the first track the rapper wrote for his forthcoming project.
“As Indigenous people, we carry with us the oldest living cultures in the world,” Birdz said of the song, which is produced by trials.
“That’s something sacred that no one can ever take from us – it’s that energy that holds our heads up high no matter what the world throws at us.”
“We had the hook idea in the stash for ages and I eventually came back to it to record the verses months later,” he continued.
“Once we had a decent demo, trials and I knew we needed a soulful singer to really bring it home. I’ve always been a huge fan of Ngaiire’s and think that she’s hands down one of the best singer songwriters in the country.”
The release of ‘Fly’ follows Birdz’s Hottest 100 debut, after he came in at #30 with ‘Bagi-la-m Bargan’ alongside Fred Leone.
