Fat Freddy’s Drop will return to Australian shores in October, headlining a massive six-hour Sunday Session at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl as part of this year’s Melbourne International Jazz Fest.
In addition to the New Zealand collective’s sprawling two-hour set, other acts confirmed to appear during the extravaganza include The Bamboos, Emma Donovan, Paul Grabowsky and The Cat Empire trumpeter Harry James Angus, who’ll be unveiling his new project, a duo with drummer Freyja Hooper.
Fat Freddy’s will have a new album in tow, with the ensemble set to release Wairunga next month. The album was recorded live in the outdoor surrounds of Wairunga on New Zealand’s north island. Grabowsky and Donovan, meanwhile, will be debuting their new project The Old Rugged Cross, with a gospel-inspired set complete with a six-piece horn and rhythm section.
The celebration of all things jazz, funk, gospel and soul is scheduled to take place Sunday, 24th October. Tickets go on sale next Thursday, 22nd July with a pre-sale from Monday, 19th July – head here for ticketing and more info.
Melbourne International Jazz Festival is set to run from 15-24 October this year, with the full program to be unveiled next month on Thursday, 19th August.
