Alana Haim, one-third of US pop-rock band HAIM, is one of the leading actors in Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film, Licorice Pizza.
Licorice Pizza is Anderson’s ninth feature film, following such modern classics as Phantom Thread, There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights and The Master. The upcoming film stars the 29 year old Haim sister in the role of Alana Kane.
Haim co-stars alongside fellow newcomer, the 18 year old Cooper Hoffman. Hoffman is the only son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, who passed away in 2014. The elder Hoffman was one of Anderson’s regular collaborators, appearing in Hard Eight (1996), Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), Punch Drunk Love (2002) and The Master (2012).
Licorice Pizza will also feature appearances from Bradley Cooper, Benny Safdie, Sean Penn and Tom Waits. Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood will once again provide the soundtrack, following his contributions to There Will Be Blood (2007), The Master, Inherent Vice (2014) and Phantom Thread (2017).
Licorice Pizza is not Anderson’s first link to HAIM. He directed the music videos for the band’s singles ‘Right Now’, ‘Little Of Your Love’, ‘Summer Girl’ and several others. He also shot the cover artwork for the band’s latest album, 2020’s Women in Music Pt. III.
