Gang of Youths continue to tease their forthcoming third album with the release of new single, ‘the man himself’.
Following on from their total serene EP, featuring ‘the angel of 8th avenue’ and ‘unison’, the latest from the now London-based group follows in their typical, intensely personal style.
The songs so far have dealt with songwriter Dave Le’aupepe’s process of grief and acceptance following the death of his father. ‘the man himself’ is a meditative moment for the musician, as he perceives a future without his father’s guiding hand.
“If I ever have kids I’m not really sure how to raise them without my dad helping me out,” Le’aupepe’s commented. Yet the song itself isn’t rooted in pessimism – instead focusing on a more positive and evocative upswing when it comes to its arrangement.

With fans rallying around these latest singles, excited for the band’s first full collection of music since 2017, we can be expecting more from the Sydney originals in the months to come. The band’s recent headline show in London, streamed for their global audience on TikTok, saw Gang Of Youths debut a new – unreleased – song called ‘Brothers’, which delved deeper into Le’aupepe’s recent journey of personal discovery.
