Ticketek and the Victorian state government have announced a new mechanism that will ease the process of checking in and verifying vaccination status at major events.
The new app integration means punters won’t have to scan a QR code in order to check in and show proof of vaccination. Instead, individuals can check-in and show proof of vaccination using the Service Victoria app, which will be linked to the digital ticket on their smart phones.
“This technology is going to make things even easier at entry points, allowing fans to spend less time getting into venues and more time enjoying the day,” said the Victorian Minister for tourism, sport and major events, Martin Pakula.
The technology will be in effect at the Kennedy Oaks Day at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse tomorrow, 4th November. Ticketek digital entry tickets will include a button for attendees to press in order to check in and show proof of vaccination. While it’ll initially only work with Ticketek digital tickets, the Vic government expects other ticketing companies to adopt the technology in the months to come.
“Service Victoria have worked closely with Ticketek to make this system as secure as possible and we’re looking forward to rolling out this technology at other major events over summer,” said Danny Pearson, Minister for government services.
Ticketek trialled the new technology at the NRL Grand Final at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium in October. Victorians are reminded they can connect their proof of vaccination status to the Service Victoria app through MyGov or the Express Medicare Plus App.
