ABC’s live music program The Sound wrapped over the weekend, with the sixth and final episode of the show’s third season airing.
As with every other instalment, episode six closed out with a tribute cover performance – others this season have included Budjerah, Ngaiire and Gretta Ray covering The Temper Trap’s ‘Sweet Disposition’ and a rendition of The Sleepy Jackson’s ‘Good Dancers’ by San Cisco, Katy Steele and Stella Donnelly.
This time around, Delta Goodrem and The Teskey Brothers‘ Josh Teskey united to cover arguably one of the most iconic Australian songs of all time – INXS‘ 1988 Kick classic ‘Never Tear Us Apart’.
Filmed at The Concourse Concert Hall in Sydney, the sparse rendition sees Goodrem on piano and Teskey accompanying on acoustic guitar, with the pair trading lead vocal lines, harmonising on the chorus.
“I think every Australian has always felt connected to INXS’s songs,” Goodrem explained when introducing the performance. “I think they’ve been a part of the fabric of our lifetimes and our soundtracks.”
“A lot of us all grew up on this, on INXS’s music. This particular song is just a classic, a beautiful bit of songwriting,” Teskey added.
