Björk will star alongside Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman and Ethan Hawke in the upcoming Viking revenge thriller, The Northman.
Directed by Robert Eggers, The Northman is an epic historical film set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century. The film is due for the release in April 2022, but you can see Björk in its brand new official trailer (below).
“Remember for whom you shed you last teardrop,” says Björk, playing the role of the prophet-like Seeress. Skarsgård plays the Viking prince, Amleth, a prominent figure in Scandinavian mythology who is regarded as the inspiration for Hamlet. Hawke plays King Aurvandill and Kidman plays Queen Gudrún.
Eggers co-wrote the script with Icelandic poet Sjón. Björk and Sjón have collaborated on numerous occasions, including on the songs ‘Isobel’, ‘Bachelorette’, ‘Oceania’ and ‘Wanderlust’.
Eggers is best-known for his 2019 film, The Lighthouse, a contemporary adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s final, unfinished work, ‘The Light-House’. The film, which starred Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, won the FIPRESCI Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Eggers’ first film was the supernatural horror, The Witch, released in 2015. The Witch starred Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Ineson and won a slew of critics and film festival awards.
Björk had a starring role in Lars Von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark in 2000 and 2005’s Drawing Restraint 9, an experimental film created by her ex-partner Matthew Barney.
