Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has revealed the band intends to stop making music after 2025, though will continue to perform and may collaborate with other artists.
Martin made the comments in an interview with BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley that is set to air later this week. As The i reports, Whiley shared a brief snippet of the conversation while appearing on fellow BBC Radio 2 program The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.
“Our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour,” Martin reportedly says in the clip. “Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue as it were finishes then.”
Speaking to Ball, Whiley said of Martin, “I’m never quite sure if he’s joking or being deadly serious… Towards the end of the the time we spent together he shared something pretty honest and pretty intimate which was a huge revelation.”
Coldplay released their ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres, back in October of this year after previewing it with singles ‘Higher Power’ and ‘My Universe’. The record, which followed the band’s 2019 album Everyday Life, was produced by Max Martin and features collaborations with the likes of BTS and Selena Gomez.
