The organisers of Sydney’s inner west institution King Street Carnival (fka King Street Crawl) have announced that this year’s event has been postponed indefinitely due to the surge in COVID-19 cases throughout New South Wales.
This year’s festival was set to run next week between Friday, 14th and Sunday, 16th January, with a lineup that boasted the likes of Amyl & the Sniffers, Confidence Man, You Am I, Stella Donnelly, Middle Kids, Hiatus Kaiyote and much, much more.
Organisers revealed the decision on Tuesday (4th December) in a statement shared to their social media. “Whilst the decision is a very difficult one for everyone involved, with case numbers spiraling and the ongoing uncertainty around the current outbreak, we as organisers don’t feel that now is the right time to be bringing large crowds into the local community,” it read.
“As all event producers in these times need to be, we are forever optimistic and are currently working with all artists, agents, suppliers and relevant authorities to find a suitable reschedule date that ensures the integrity of the event and quality of the line-up remains intact.
“We appreciate how frustrating this is for all of you who have purchased tickets, but we would like to ask for your patience while we find another date and for all ticket holders to hold on to their tickets in the meantime. We’ll be back in the not too distant future with more info and new dates.”
The announcement comes as NSW today recorded 34,994 new community-transmitted COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
