The 2022 BRIT Awards took place at London’s O2 Arena overnight. Adele was one of the night’s big winners, taking home Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for her fourth LP, 30, and Song of the Year for ‘Easy On Me’.
Adele also performed at the event. It was the London megastar’s first UK performance since 2016. She performed ‘I Drink Wine’, one of the stand-out tracks from last year’s ‘I Drink Wine’.
The performance began as a stripped back arrangement with Adele seated on a grand piano. As the lights lifted, a full backing band was revealed, including a small gospel choir and live drums. Adele kept sitting on the piano throughout, but it did not impede her vocal strength.
As BRITs host Mo Gilligan said at the end of ‘I Drink Wine’, “Wow, what a performance. Adele, everyone. Wow – that was exceptional.” For her part, Adele had tears in her eyes.
The performance comes just a couple of weeks after Adele was forced to postpone her three-month Las Vegas residency due to COVID. 30 was not only one of the comeback releases of 2021, but it went to number one in 24 territories. It was the best selling album of the year in the UK, despite being released in mid-November.
