PREMIERE: Watch Riley Pearce Perform Latest Single ‘Furniture’ Live From Margaret River

Earlier this month, singer-songwriter Riley Pearce shared ‘Furniture’, lifted from his forthcoming debut album The Water & the Rough ahead of its arrival in June. It’s a moving, introspective cut that sees the Perth musician crooning above gently-strummed acoustic guitar and sparse but affecting instrumental flourishes.

Lyrically, the track sees Pearce ruminating on spending lockdown in a small apartment with his partner; a meditation on the bizarre patterns that emerge in unconventional circumstances. “Fancy seeing you around these parts / Your face is so familiar,” Pearce wryly sings.”Oh yeah, that’s right, you live here too.

“The days all blend together and your interactions with each other grow weirder and weirder,” he explains. “It’s neither good nor bad, it’s just strange. It’s an observation of that absurd time for us, spending so much time in that apartment that we were becoming a part of the furniture.”

Today, we’re premiering a gorgeous video of Pearce performing ‘Furniture’ live from Margaret River. Stripped down to its most basic elements, just voice and a guitar, the live performance feels even more intimate than the studio version. Adding to this is a brief shower that starts about 40 seconds in, quiet flickers of rainfall accenting the track.
