Montaigne Releases New Single With Talking Heads’ David Byrne

Sydney pop artist Montaigne has released the new single, ‘Always Be You’. The track features co-lead vocals from American luminary David Byrne.

Montaigne’s Jessica Cerro wrote ‘Always Be You’ with Byrne and producer Dave Hammer (Genesis Owusu, Lime Cordiale). It’s Montaigne’s first single of 2022 and follows ‘Now (In Space)’, which came out in October 2021.

It’s not the first time Montaigne has collaborated with a high profile artist – she’s previously appeared on songs by Urthboy, Hilltop Hoods and Alice Ivy. However, there’s no denying Byrne is the most impressive name on the list.

Byrne’s music career began in the late 1970s when he co-founded Talking Heads in New York City. The band released eight albums between 1977 and 1988, giving rise to a raft of enduring pop and rock hits, including ‘And She Was’, ‘Road to Nowhere’, ‘Psycho Killer’ and ‘Once In A Lifetime’.

Byrne’s since made a number of solo albums and collaborative LPs with Brian Eno and St Vincent. In 2020 he released the concert film, American Utopia, directed by Spike Lee.

Montaigne represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, performing the song ‘Technicolour’. Montaigne’s latest album, Complex, came out in August 2019. Watch the video for ‘Always Be You’ below, directed by Genevieve Kaiser.
