Melbourne three-piece Telenova have shared new single ‘Haunted’ alongside the announcement of their latest EP, Stained Glass Love.
The trio – whose 2021 debut single ‘Bones’ was voted into triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2021 at #91 – announced their new EP this evening, explaining that the devil’s share of the upcoming release was penned throughout the isolating experience of lockdown in Melbourne.
“The writing of this EP was a pretty visceral experience,” explains frontwoman Angeline Armstrong. “The majority of these songs were written in the heart of Melbourne’s long lockdowns and I think we all understand that feeling of being hyper introspective at that time.”
New single, ‘Haunted’ seems to reflect this introspective approach, with the track described as a “hypnotic tale of addiction” which pairs dramatic synth strings with elements of dark Northern Soul.
“These five songs all felt like a shedding of the skin for me, peeling it back, layer by layer,” Armstrong adds. “I can pinpoint the exact moments and experiences in my past that really marked me and grew me as a person.
“Those moments form the setting of each of these five songs – and there’s a strange sense of both fear and solace in being able to take you there with me.”
While the five-track Stained Glass Love EP – which also includes April’s ‘Why Do I Keep You?’ – will be released on 19th August, Telenova will accompany its arrival with a run of tour dates in New Zealand upon its release, and in Australia the next month. The group will also be appearing at a number of festivals in coming months, including the likes of Spilt Milk and Falls Festival later this year.
Stained Glass Love is set for release 19th August.
