triple j’s Unearthed High program is returning for another year, announcing all the details for its 2022 edition today.
Returning for its 15th year, Unearthed High exists to help uncover the local musical talent that exists within Australia’s high schools, and setting up these artists for lifelong careers within the arts.
As part of the winning prize, the 2022 Unearthed High artist will receive assistance from triple j in regards to the funding and professional recording of their next single, along with career guidance from local musical experts.
Likewise, the remaining five finalists will also be teamed up with a senior music manager from the Association of Artist Managers (AAM) for crucial advice in launching their musical careers.
Meanwhile, the best entry from a First Nations artist will result in an ongoing mentorship from the AAM, alongside with a songwriting workshop at their school, helmed by the APRA AMCOS Songmakers program.
Ever since it first launched back in 2008, triple j’s Unearthed High has discovered some of the country’s most beloved talents over the last 15 years, including Snakadaktal, Arno Faraji, George Alice, Gretta Ray, Teenage Joans, and just last year, The Rions. Now the station hopes to add another world-beating artist to its already-impressive ranks.
Entries for this year’s triple j Unearthed High competition are officially open now, with entries required prior to midnight (AEST) on Monday, 25th July.
As triple j explain, all artists need to do to enter is to ensure they have music added to their Unearthed profile, and they have ticked the box that says they’re an Unearthed High artist. Further information is available via the triple j website.
