Long-standing Australian music industry charity Support Act will receive $2 million in funding from the Victorian government. Jacinta Allan’s Labor Government is coming good on a commitment made during the party’s successful 2022 election campaign to support live music over the next four years.
The announcement was made at a press conference on Monday, 27th November. The Support Act team were joined by Victoria’s Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks, sound engineer and Ausmusic T-shirt Day ambassador Juvi Yellow Beanie and Melbourne singer-songwriter Queenie.
Support Act’s CEO wants to help create “a safe and thriving music industry for all”
Brooks described Victoria as “Australia’s music capital” and applauded Support Act for its ongoing provision of support for industry workers in times of need. “We’re proud to support our music industry workers who give so much to our state,” said the MP. “We’re ensuring that our music industry can access tailored support and training they need to support themselves and each other on and off the stage.”
Clive Miller – Support Act’s CEO – thanked the Victorian Government for their assistance in allowing Support Act to “help provide a safe and thriving music industry for all”. “The Victorian Government’s funding support over four years will help to ensure that we can work in partnership with the Government and local state-based organisations to continue to provide critical support services to music workers who are doing it tough,” he said.
The announcement comes ahead of Ausmusic T-shirt Day, which is happening on Thursday, 30th November. The annual fundraising initiative, started by Support Act, encourages people to wear their favourite Australian music merch and raise both money and awareness for Support Act’s work.
