Dylan Alcott‘s celebrated Ability Fest is back, bigger and more accessible than ever in 2024.
Not only will the fully accessible event return to its native home of Naarm/Melbourne this October, it will also be expanding to Meanjin/Brisbane and running as a two-date event for the very first time.
Ability Fest 2023 — Aftermovie
The first leg of Ability Fest will go down on Saturday, 19th October at the usual spot of Naarm/Melbourne’s Birrarung Marr, before making its debut at Brisbane/Meanjin’s Victoria Park/Barrambim on Saturday, 26th October.
Ability Fest was created by 2022 Australian Of The Year Dylan Alcott in conjunction with Untitled Group and is Australia’s first all-accessible music festival.
100% of proceeds from the event are donated to the Dylan Alcott Foundation, helping young Australians living with a disability to fulfil their potential. To date, the not-for-profit event has raised north of $500,000 for the cause.
What’s more, the festival has this year committed to ensuring accessibility on all fronts, including financially, with a single ticket price of just $60 set alongside the return of complimentary admission for carers.
“For many Australians, the cost of living crisis has created significant financial strain,” Alcott sexplains in a press statement. “We believe that music has the power to unite communities, bring people together and lift our spirits, especially during challenging times”.
For the first time, this year’s event will also be open to fans aged 16 years and older, instead of 18+, across both cities.
While we don’t yet have any lineup details for this year’s double header, fans can no doubt expect the usual huge host of local faves. The 2023 artist roster was topped by Hilltop Hoods, Sampa The Great, Alex Lahey and loads more.
