Music producer Diplo, real name Thomas Wesley Pentz, has been sued over a distribution case of explicit content.
The suit was filed in California on Thursday by a woman who goes by the pseudonym Jane Doe.
Diplo Had An Intimate Relationship With Jane Doe
The filing states that Jane Doe claims to have been in an intimate relationship with Diplo since June 2016, running through October 2023. In November 2023, she found that images and videos of her sexual interactions with Diplo, 45, were disseminated without her consent.
Helene Weiss, the women’s attorney said the following about the incident “This is tragically not the first time that the defendant has done that—for shaming and violating a woman by illegally posting intimate photos of her. Diplo’s alleged illicit pattern of conduct demonstrates how much harm he has caused Jane Doe and other young women like her. Our client deserves justice, and she’s hopeful this lawsuit may help bring about an end once and for all to the defendant’s relentless victimization of women.”
Another attorney representing Jane Doe, Micha Liberty, commended her client’s bravery: “Revenge pornography is an abhorrent violation of privacy and trust that causes profound emotional trauma to victims like Jane Doe.” Micha told Variety that “Jane Doe shows great bravery in speaking out against this wrongness—a powerful reminder for systemic change to support and safeguard all survivors of such violations.”
The lawsuit details a pattern of behavior by Diplo, raising red flags over his treatment of women. The legal team representing Jane Doe is not only fighting for her but also for other women who might have fallen victim to this very same behavior by Diplo. The case sets out the wide issue of revenge pornography and its related emotional injuries; it demands changes in the system that would protect the victims.
