Having recently been announced as part of brand new Perth music festival This is Nowhere, Chicago instrumental five-piece Tortoise will be heading to Australia a little early to play a handful of dates around Australia.
Formed way back in 1990, Tortoise have released 6 studio albums to date and their 2001 record Standards garnered much praise and a 9.2 rating from Pitchfork.
“Tortoise, perhaps the most vital architects of the post-rock genre, would be responsible for its greatest advancement since its inception.” – Matt LeMay from Pitchfork.
“They didn’t singlehandedly broaden the genre’s horizons, but their stature could make it appear that way – after Standards, for a minute, it seemed as if other bands were going to have to rush to catch up.” – Pitchfork.
If you’re unfamiliar with the band, but like the sound of dance, jazz, post-rock, dub and techno all blended together in a minimalist fashion without singing, then check out the clip below to get an idea of what Tortoise are all about.
