Dance superstar Deadmau5 has had a bit of an emo moment – announcing on his Tumblr page that he’s “going to unplug for a bit”, and he’s feeling “basically pretty miserable right now”.
In a post on his page simply titled ‘right’, the Canadian electro-house producer – real name Joel Zimmerman – gave an indication with a series of intriguing comments that he might be disappearing from the internet for a little while.

So here’s whats happening. im going to unplug for a wee bit. which doesnt mean im cancelling any upcoming shows or anything, im just gunna slam on the breaks for a bit and force myself to endure some quiet time. in that time, obviously the gears will still be moving, ill still be writing, and the releases will still come out (heads up for something crazy real soon like) and yeah.
i got a lot of work to do on some stuff. so, best i just chill the fuck out a bit and just get it done, and get it done RIGHT, until im 100% satisfied with it. Then our regularily scheduled program shall continue. but yeah, im basicly pretty miserable right now and need to pull the fuck back and figure out whatever the fuck it is i do.
Deadmau5 has been taking pot-shots at some of the world’s biggest artists in recent times. In March, he called Madonna a ‘fucking idiot‘ following her intro to fellow DJ/producer Avicii’s set at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
And in June, he took aim at David Guetta, saying in an interview with Rolling Stone that the Sexy Bitch hitmaker “has two iPods and a mixer and he just plays tracks”.
It will be interesting to see what Deadmau5 gets up to both professionally and personally after this post.
