Tom Waits is the latest music star to be immortalised in yellow on The Simpsons.
Yahoo! and Consequence of Sound report that the God’s Away On Business hitmaker will play himself in an episode of the new season of the show, titled Homer Goes to Prep School.
The storyline of the episode follows Waits as a survivalist, introducing Homer to the unique lifestyle.
Executive Producer Al Jean said the episode will feature Homer in another unique situation, with hilarious results.
“We did a lot of research into the ‘prepper’ phenomenon, where people are convinced that some horrible catastrophe – like an electromagnetic pulse – is going to occur, and that people will have to survive without the grid,” he said. So naturally, “Homer becomes a prepper.”
Jean said Waits doesn’t sing in the episode, but fans will recognize his trademark growler voice “in a second”.
The episode is expected to air sometime in December. In the meantime, Waits can also be seen in the upcoming film Seven Psychopaths, which hits theatres in October. Watch the trailer for the film here.
Waits is the latest addition to The Simpsons‘ ever-expanding list of Season 24 guest voices. Justin Bieber, Edward Norton and Zoey Deschanel are just some of the names who are also making cameos in various episodes of the show next season.
