Now this has to be the coolest rock-star-turned-into-a-cartoon-character clip we’ve seen all year.
The late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury has been transformed into an Angry Bird by Rovio – the creators of the cult smartphone and tablet game.
He stars with some of the other Angry Birds characters in a short animated clip to plug the Freddie For A Day Fundraiser, which takes place on September 5, Mercury’s birthday.
The day is organised by his Queen bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor to raise money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust – Fighting Aids Worldwide. Since its inception in 1992, the charity has raised over $15 million worldwide.
Mercury, looking like one of the yellow birds with an added moustache and a crown, zooms along on a bike with the other characters, until one of the evil green pigs gets in his way. Naturally, the clip is set to Queen’s hit song, Bicycle Race.
Along with the clip, A Freddie Mercury Angry Bird T-shirt is being made available to buy, with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Mercury Phoenix Trust.
Mercury died in November 1991 following complications with AIDS.
