Ryan Adams will be producing and playing the drums on The Lemonheads new album, which will have Evan Dando play alongside his co-founding singer Ben Deily (who left in 1989) and close friend Juliana Hatfield will play bass after previously appearing on the classic It’s a Shame About Ray.
Adams revealed the news via Twitter (tweet below) saying that he’s “Looking forward to producing the new Lemonhead’s album this weekend with orig 2 songwriters Evan & Ben with@julianahatfield on bass.” and that it was a “Dream come true… Back to the punker sounds”
Evan Dando formed The Lemonheads in 1986, and within a few short months they had released their debut EP, which is now one of the most sought-after recordings of the 80s. That same year Juliana Hatfield formed The Blake Babies, enjoying cult success on college radio stations. She first introduced herself to Evan in a Boston pizza shop, having watched The Lemonheads perform the prior evening.
With co-founding singer Ben Deily leaving in 1989, the band went on to record the classic 90’s album It’s a Shame About Ray. Hatfield played bass and provided backing vocals on the record, which included the singles Confetti, My Drug Buddy, It’s a Shame About Ray and the band’s most commercially successful song Mrs. Robinson.
Both Evan and Juliana will be touring here this December for the very first time. The duo will deliver acoustic versions of their individual back catalogues, including The Lemonheads, Blake Babies, their own solo material, and a selection of covers.
