Iconic Australian singer/songwriter Paul Kelly has announced details of his whopping 19th studio album… and ironically, it will be out on October 19.
Spring and Fall is his first album of new material since 2007’s Stolen Apples and follows a truckload of retrospective releases that have come out over recent years, such as his memoir How to Make Gravy and his eight-CD live box set The A to Z Recordings.
The album was recorded with J Walker and Paul’s nephew Dan Kelly in a country hall last July, and features cameos from long-time collaborators Peter and Dan Luscombe. In addition, several guest vocalists also appear on the record, including Laura Jean and Vika and Linda Bull.
Kelly described the album as a song cycle that tells a love story from multiple points of view.
“Noticing that people are listening to music more and more now in a grazing kind of way – picking a song here and a song there – spurred me on to try and make a record that would take a stand on behalf of the ALBUM. I’m a music grazer with the best of them but there is still a deep satisfaction in encountering a set of songs that unfolds from start to finish and demands to be heard in its entirety.”
Pre-orders for the record will be available from October 5 at www.paulkelly.com.au. Kelly will also be part of the entertainment at next Saturday’s AFL Grand Final at the MCG – and fans can catch him with The Temper Trap as part of a free concert after the game.
