As the end of 2012 draws close, lords of the streaming game Spotify have released the top 10 tracks most listened to by the service’s subscribers. Unfortunately, the list looks a lot like something from the top 40, meaning those damn tweens have had their way, but it’s a big news person in #1.
Surprise, surprise, after taking out the ARIA for Album of the Year, Gotye can now claim to have Spotify’s track of the year, though what’s remarkable is that this list is from 2012, and those who have been paying attention know that Somebody That I Use to Know came out in 2011, which as The Anti-Quiet points out, means the single was streamed non-stop all year round.
Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, and Fun. all feature in the list, as you would expect, as does Flo Rida, and Carly Rae. One Direction are only in there for one track, which is odd, good, but odd with counterparts The Wanted, and surprisingly M83 and their single Midnight City.
Check out the full list below.
10. Nicki Minaj – “Starships”
9. The Wanted – “Glad You Came”
8. M83 – “Midnight City”
