Sure, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are headlining, but they must have done a deal with mother nature to make the weather replicate their namesake at the Sydney Big Day Out today.
The temperature is skyrocketing at the Sydney Showgrounds, and according to Weatherzone, peaked at a ridiculous 45 degrees at 2.30pm. This was after a predicted top of 39 degrees set by forecasters yesterday.
And, in a huge turn of events, apparently, it’s just started raining – so the mist fountains are going to get a bit of a reprieve. The temperature has dropped to 35 degrees, and there’s a few more showers predicted later this evening. Festivalgoers can expect the temperature to drop down into the low 30’s by 9pm, which will be some pretty welcome relief while the Chilis are playing.
News Limited reports that fans have been scrambling under the mist fountains, packing the air-conditioned No Noise Nightclub and seeking shaded spots in the grandstands to cope with the searing heat.
Despite the sweltering weather, my Sydney colleagues are plowing on down at Big Day Out, bringing you up-to-the-minute news, photo galleries and interviews from the event. Marc and Mike will be posting stuff throughout the day, along with guest reporter Katie O’Neil, who won our Logitech competition to join the Music Feeds team for a day (and what a day to do it). So far, the boys have rated ME, Against Me! and Every Time I Die as their standout acts.
