Grammy winner Frank Ocean is being sued by a relatively unknown producer over a track from his huge album from last year, Channel Orange.
DIY reports that producer Micah Otano is taking action against the star for supposedly copying his track Daylight, and using elements of it in Ocean’s song Lost.
Otano has filed a lawsuit against Ocean, his producer Malay, and Ocean’s record labels Def Jam and Universal – and is suing for all royalties and charges associated with the track. The producer believes that while he’s accredited with co-writing Lost, he reckons Malay is wrongly credited for all the production on the track.
It will be interesting to see how this story develops. Ocean has already been in the headlines earlier this year over a tussle with Chris Brown in a parking lot outside an LA recording studio.
There’s also talk circulating that Ocean is preparing to begin work on a follow-up to Channel Orange, despite previously declaring that he may never make another album.
Ocean will return to the stage at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in late April, before playing the UK’s Wireless Festival in London in July.
