Splendour In The Grass organisers have confirmed this year’s festival will once again take place on the last weekend of July.
The festival will be held on Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July, and will be the first instalment to be held at their brand-new, long planned permanent home at the North Byron Parklands.
The site is located 20 minutes north of Byron Bay and contains “660 acres of rolling green hills, beautiful native forest and water lily covered dams.”
Splendour In The Grass organisers secured use of North Byron Parklands for the festival back in April last year – finally gaining approval from the NSW Planning and Assessment Commission for some “test events” after years of lobbying.
“It has been a long journey to get to this point,” co-producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco said. “Seven years after we first found this idyllic piece of land, we’re so excited to finally move Splendour to its permanent home at North Byron Parklands.”
Ducrou and Piticco claim the site is a hive of activity at present preparing for July’s festival and will contain some new areas to explore and ample camping space. “Onsite camping has always been a high priority for us. It creates a real sense of community at the show.”
No official date has been given for the Splendour In The Grass 2013 line-up announcement – however, rumours are already flying thick and fast. Bob Dylan, Alt-J, Nine Inch Nails and Polyphonic Spree are all firming as strong possibilities – the latter self-confirming themselves for the festival at the start of the year.
You can see some of the picturesque features of the new site in the official dates announcement video below, which also features music by Jake Bugg. Another confirmation, or just appropriate for a video which follows a very happy bee buzzing his way around Byron Bay and the Parklands site? We’ll soon find out!
