After all this reading and writing on SOPA and PIPA, I feel a somewhat revolutionary vibe in the air. But this blog isn’t about revolution; it is about the music industry and at this point in time, dance music in the live arena. Well, low and behold we’ve got something that lands right in the middle of it all. Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo and his partner in crime, Timmy Tea, have brought a third man under their Bloody Beetroots masks and given the world, Death Crew 77.
The name (as far as I know), comes from the raw intensity of their dance styling, heavily rooted in punk rock, which began in 1977, as was Sir Bob Rifo. I’ve always been a little punk rock kid inside, right from when I picked up Green Day’s Dookie and traveled back in time to discover The Stooges, The Ramones, MC5, Sex Pistols, etc., so this struck quite a chord with me.
The Bloody Beetroots have always put on an powerful and energetic show, even when they are just doing a club DJ set. So when the picked up instruments, brought in a drum kit and took to the stage, it was like a punk rock Frankenstein, brought back to life through a surge of electricity and synths.
Love them or hate them, you can’t ignore the electricity that is The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77.
