Amy Winehouse’s fans were understandably concerned when news broke that their very much loved Back To Black would be played into the hands of André 3000 and Beyoncé. While the music world has been chomping at the bit to see what the pair have done to the renowned track, Winehouse’s father isn’t having a bar of it.
Mitch Winehouse took to Twitter following the recent public debut of the track, berating the involvement of André 3000. “He should have let Beyoncé do it all,” he opined, after describing the cover as ‘terrible’. The track was produced for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby adaptation soundtrack, which explains why the classic R&B and jazz-infused hit has now become a dubstep-laden, electronic-driven song.
You can hear the track below, which has been almost ruined by tags from producer Mark Ronson who first plugged the track on his East Village Radio for the first time, and made sure everyone who listened to the track was fully aware of that. André is clearly the weakest link in the collaboration, but I doubt Mitch Winehouse could have done a better job.
The Great Gatsby OST is proving to be quite a treasure trove, Already we’ve heard Florence’s contribution, and the return of Lana Del Rey’s jilted bride complex. Oh, and the new track from The xx, which is always exciting.
