TLC will return to the stage for the first time since 2009 this July as part of The Mixtape Festival, and they may be resurrecting Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes in holographic form. Taking place in Hershey, Pennsylvania from the 26th-27th July, Mixtape Festival will be TLC’s first live performance since their special appearance at the Justin Timberlake and Friends benefit concert in October, 2009.
Last year surviving members Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas revealed plans to tour and record a follow-up to 2002’s 3D, which was released following the death of founding member Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes.
Watkins and Thomas revealed that the tour would feature a big screen that projected an image of Lopes, with her vocals also being incorporated into the show, although there’s no word as to whether this will occur at The Mixtape Festival.
The duo have even suggested using a hologram of Lopes, similar to the famous Tupac hologram at Coachella 2012. As Thomas explained a hologram of Lopes would be difficult to work with, emotionally, but ultimately could prove a fitting tribute:
“It will be hard on us but I certainly think our fans would love to see it. We would definitely be the first group to ever do it.
“I think we would probably pass out and all of our fans would break down but it’s amazing how real the hologram looks, it’s almost like you can touch the person.”
TLC will join a Mixtape Festival lineup that also includes New Kids On The Block, Train and Hanson.
