Name checked as one of his most important influences and supports, Bruno Mars’ mother, Bernadette Hernandez has passed away over the weekend following a brain aneurysm. She died at Queens Medical Center, Honolulu, Mars’ hometown, aged 55.
Much like her son, Hernandez experienced success through a pursuit of music. Born in the Philippines and immigrating to Hawaii, Hernandez was a hula dancer and singer. It didn’t take too long for Mars (real name Peter Hernandez) to catch the performing bug; at the age of just two he was joining his family on stage doing Elvis Presley impersonations.
Hernandez was highly supportive of all her children’s musical endeavors. Mars has 4 sisters who perform in the outfit The Lylas, and a brother who plays drums in the pop star’s band.
Mars’ Moonshine Jungle tour will be heading Down Under in February 2014.
