Frank Ocean Cancels Splendour In The Grass And Remaining Sideshows

Sunday Splendour In The Grass headliner Frank Ocean, one of the most anticipated acts at this year’s festival, has announced he has cancelled his Australian touring commitments following health concerns, including his Splendour performance.

An brief statement has just been released on the https://www.facebook.com/nichetouring/posts/10151730504064817, simply saying, “Regrettably we can confirm that Frank Ocean’s remaining Australian shows have been cancelled. Standby for further information.”

Rumours of the Odd Future cohort’s cancellation began circulating when fans in attendance at Ocean’s first sideshow, held at Festival Hall in Melbourne last night, reported that Ocean was complaining of being ill after a month on his world tour. Punters also noticed how frail the performer looked and sounded, relying on crowd participation to help the set along.

It was also reported earlier this afternoon that sources close to organisers were spreading the word that the next Melbourne sideshow for Ocean, set to take place tonight, would be cancelled.

“For anyone that has a ticket to tonight’s show.. It has unfortunately been canceled [sic].. Frank is sick!” a source associated with the performance told Tone Deaf.

Last year, Ocean cancelled his appearance at Future Music Festival to concentrate on promoting his highly praised debut record, Channel Orange.

Live Nation and Niche Productions regret to announce that Frank Ocean’s remaining Australian dates will not go ahead due to illness.

After last night’s concert in Melbourne at Festival Hall, it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show.

It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal chords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice.

This makes the completion of his remaining Australian dates impossible.

Unfortunately due to Frank Ocean’s tight tour schedule it is not possible to schedule replacement dates, however we will be working to confirm a return to Australia as soon as is practical.

All ticket holders for the headline dates (listed below) may obtain a full refund from the point of purchase.

Friday July 26 – Melbourne, Festival Hall

Monday July 29 – Sydney, Hordern Pavilion

Tuesday July 30 – Sydney, Hordern Pavilion

Splendour in the Grass commented that:

“With Splendour already in full swing this is devastating news for the event and will be for many of our patrons. We do want to remind everyone that over 70 of the best acts in the world right now are still here and ready to go including our previously billed mystery band, Alt-J.”
