Prolific Sydney-based composer James Opie has released the latest album for his ‘Nihilore’ project.
Titled Lost Souls, the release continues in the theme of previous Nihilore tunes, melding ambient, melodic and electronic textures with sparse rhythmic elements. Guest vocals on several tracks are provided courtesy of Adrift For Days frontman Mick Kaslik. His impassioned delivery through a variety of vocal effects adds another element to the ethereal, otherworldly textures created by Opie.
The grooviest moments of the record come when Opie’s simple piano melodies intertwine with synth and computerised instrumentation, recalling 90’s trip hop in cinematic fashion.
