Rock Hall Of Fame Nominates Nirvana, LL Cool J & The Replacements For 2014 Induction

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the last additions to its final nominations list for its 2014 inductions. Joining 16 previously announced acts will be Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, Nirvana, Cat Stevens, Yes, LL Cool J and The Replacements.

These acts, all legends in their own right, will be joining The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Hall and Oates, KISS, N.W.A., The Meters, Link Wray, and The Zombies, as the 23 acts who made the ballot that will go to Rock Hall of Fame voters.

Ronstadt’s nomination comes two months after the country singer went public with the news that she can no longer sing due to Parkinson’s disease. The singer has been eligible for induction for over 20 years, with Eagles co-founder Don Henley labelling her absence “another travesty.”

Under the Rock Hall’s requirements for nomination, the artist must wait 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording to become eligible for what some artists consider a somewhat dubious honour. Ronstadt herself told The LA Times “I don’t care if I ever get inducted.”

The final nominations list will now be voted on by the Rock Hall’s 600 members, which includes all previous living inductees, musicians, journalists, and members of the music industry. The voting process includes a fan vote, going through the Hall’s official website starting 16th October.

Prog-rock band Yes, hard rock legends KISS and Deep Purple, and folk singer-songwriter Cat Stevens are expected to draw the biggest response from fans. The inductees are likely to be announced this December, with the induction ceremony to take place in April in New York City.
