Reports have surfaced that indie Brooklynites DIIV have pulled out of the upcoming Big Day Out 2014 tour. The news comes after the band’s name was curiously absent from the second lineup announcement poster, leading to speculation that the band had been dropped from the festival.
Some fans speculated that the band had been released after news recently broke that guitarist Zachary Cole Smith was arrested on heroin possession charges. But according to a report from FasterLouder, the band are busy focusing on their next studio album, their management saying:
“DIIV has canceled all upcoming tour dates outside the US to focus on recording a new LP. We apologise to our fans in South America and Australia and will be back with new material shortly.”
Back in September, Cole Smith and girlfriend Sky Ferreira were stopped by police for “several vehicle and traffic infractions.” Ferreira was found to be in possession of ecstasy while Cole Smith was in possession of “a plastic bag containing 42 decks of heroin.”
Cole Smith was charged with two misdemeanour counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count possession of stolen property, one count aggravated unlicensed driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, driving unlicensed, and having an inadequate exhaust system.
