With the recent death of Lou Reed, founding member of influential art-rock band The Velvet Underground, tributes have been pouring in. Iggy Pop, Tom Morello and Nikki Sixx have all offered their praise and condolences. Now, on Sunday, 24th November, Brooklyn venue Bowery Electric will host a huge Lou Reed tribute gig, with some big names in tow (check out the full list below).
Brooklyn Vegan has noted that the lineup includes no wave legend Arto Lindsay, Patti Smith Band guitarist Lenny Kaye, Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe from TV On The Radio, Lou Reed collaborator Shahzad Ismaily, Justin Hayward-Young of The Vaccines and Australia’s own Kirin J. Callinan. New York band Hollis Brown will also be performing The Velvet Underground’s 1970 album Loaded in its entirety.
All proceeds from the show will go to the Ali Forney Center, which works to protect LGBT youth from the harm of homelessness in the city of Brooklyn. Lou Reed’s charming final interview surfaced online recently, with the rock and roll God coming off as witty as ever, despite his ill health.
