I can feel it coming in the air tonight – a Genesis reunion. Almost four years have passed since the prog-rock giants’ drummer and solo musician Phil Collins quit music, but now it appears that he’s contemplating getting back into things, with some more solo work, and even a Genesis reunion tour.
The Guardian are reporting that Collins told German newspaper Bild am Sonntag that he has “started thinking about doing new stuff. [Maybe playing] some shows again, even with Genesis. Everything is possible”.
In an exciting turn for Australian and South American fans, Collins went on to say, “We [Genesis] could tour in Australia and South America. We haven’t been there yet.”
Collins, who is now 62 years of age, hasn’t played live since 2010, and hasn’t played with Genesis since back in 2007 (Check out some footage of their final tour below). The apparent source of his renewed enthusiasm is his children. Matthew, 8, and Nicholas, 12, want to see their dad back in action again.
Phil Collins released an album of covers in 2010, titled Going Back, and his last full-length release of original material was 2002’s Testify. Genesis’ most recent release is 1997’s Calling All Stations. Even last year Collins was still the second richest drummer in the world, behind Ringo Starr of The Beatles.
