John Butler Trio Back From The Dead For ‘Only One’ Video

It seems the John Butler Trio have jumped (rotting) head first onto the whole zombie bandwagon, appearing as the undead themselves in the video for their new single Only One. It’s the first single from the band’s appropriately named forthcoming album Flesh & Blood, their first studio album in four years.

The video, which was shot in Western Australia’s Victoria Park and directed by Ben Young, tells a rather unconventional zombie love story, an idea Butler says he’s been mulling around with for a while now. He told USA Today the lyrical content of Only One was the perfect juxtaposition for his zombie vision.

“Only One is one of those ‘turn around’ songs. You know, essentially a ‘down’/sad verse, a bridge that slowly lifts its head and a chorus that turns around, flips it and makes you feel good. I love how you can do that within a small amount of time in a song,” he told the publication.

“But if this song was accompanied by the same kind of video, I might want to vomit! I’ve seen way too many cheesy videos to traverse that trite literal ground. I wanted the song and video almost to be juxtaposed but still somehow have an element of love and humor.”
