The Smith Street Band were one of the highlights of the most recent instalment of Falls Festival, with punters praising the group’s unique blending of folk and punk to forge a style quintessentially Australian. We caught up with frontman Wil Wagner for the latest Music Feeds Podcast.
“We’re good at knowing when we’re doing it, we’re not very good at maybe stopping when we should,” said the frontman when we asked him if months spent getting up close and personal with Australia’s highways had bestowed the band with a good sense for when they’re pissing each other off.
“That’s the kind of thing that you have to deal with when you’re playing ten shows in a row together and then having one day off. Everyone just looks at each other in the morning and goes, ‘I don’t wanna fucking see you for twelve hours,'” he explains, though relations don’t remain frayed.
“We’ve never really fought or anything because we really understand each other. I know these guys better than I know anyone,” Wagner concedes. Check out Episode #70 of Music Feeds Podcast to hear about the band’s plans for their upcoming tour and their new secret video project.
