Benediction – Killing Music

Benediction are have been head banging for almost 20 years with a slightly revolving line-up. Their latest slab of thrash is as straight up as what you’d expect from any reasonably successful metal act.

Founding members Darren Brookes and Peter Rewinsky combine to form a 2-headed guitar thrashing metal monster that is definitely the backbone of Benediction.  They’re onto their third vocalist with Killing Music so it’s definitely all about metal and guitars! Benediction clearly know their limits and stick within them – this is nothing new, but it’s well produced and sounds best really fucking loud.

They Must Die Screaming is a certain mosh pit favourite, with its relentless machine gun riffage. As Her Skin Weeps is a brutal doom-laden song that will have you dancing with your grandma before you know it, while the pummelling Controlopolis sounds just like Demanufacture-era Fear Factory, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

There are also 2 bonus tracks – Seeing Though My Eyes (Broken Bones) and Largactyl (Amebix). Largactyl is bloody unreal and features death metal fan Billy Gould (Faith No More, Brujeria, Fear And The Nervous System) tearing it up on bass.

Killing Music is old school death metal – thrashy, groovy, punky, and a little stupid. But hey, that’s why we like it.
