Sometimes the road from point A to point B is a wide and obscure one. When four girls were asked to provide some backing vocals at a hip hop gig a few years ago, none of them would’ve imagined that four years later they would be releasing an a debut EP as a four piece all female a cappella vocal group with a sound that fuses dixieland with wartime songs and a hint of swing!
This EP is a definitely different in the scales of modern music, but does not mean it is not worthy of merit. LIke a barbershop quartet, the sweet harmonies produced makes this an enjoyable album to listen to. Mixing original compositions with re-workings of World War II era ditties, the six tracks on offer are a great showcase of the ladies talent. Themes of love and rabbits are an interesting mix but the wry humour in a track like My Deadly Rabbits sits with the more sombre style on the track Paper Doll.
This release is not for the everyone. The eclectic style of the music will probably attract your grandma more than your average teenage music consumer, but if you have an open mind and ear this EP will be of value.
