Now usually I’m not the biggest fan of indie bands, but it has to be said that traps are a step above. Fusing grating guitars drenched in pedals with clashing vocals and driving rhythms, their debut release Common Errors is a plodding journey through brooding shoegaze-esque indie.
Having been around for less than a year, Traps have already received a fair amount of attention, including national airplay and international support slots. Common Errors, which was recorded mixed and pressed in two weeks, perfectly captures the raw live sound of the band. The lead single and title track is a fitting example of this, transferring Trap’s energy to tape in all it’s feedback guitar riff glory.
Imagine a subtle blend of Blur, The Jesus & Mary Chain with a splash of Mogwai and you’re in the right ball park, but they need to be heard. There is something about the band’s sound that is so fantastically abrasive.
Be sure to get down to Spectrum on Septemeber 13 to check them out and support some quality local music. Supported by Chaingang and Tennis (Live), it promises to be a night well worth attending.
