Finally, it looks as though we have some reliable comedy on the horizon. Stand aside The Hangover franchise and The DICtator, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues has been officially teased this past weekend with producers releasing a new trailer.
It is set to include a return from the whole Channel 4 news team: Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Champ Kind and Brian Fantana…I mean Brick Tamland, as well as Christina Applegate resuming her role as a determined young anchorwoman. While sequels are never normally as good as the original, I have faith that Will Farrell, aka funniest man alive, will deliver a final product that is as hilarious and inappropriate as its predecessor. Cameos from Jack Black, Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Danny Trejo, among others, have been confirmed.
No official script has actually been written for the film, though we have been assured that it is happening. Of the film, co-writer and director Adam Mckay has said: “It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79. All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with”.
So by the sounds of things, this will either become the most quoted film of the next 5-6 years, or one of the greatest disappointments of recent years. Take a peak at the new trailer below.
